What's a super choice form?

Starting a new job is exciting. It also comes with a bit of paperwork. That's where a super standard choice form comes in.

The form is to tell your employer where to pay your super.
You can:

  2. Go to Your account/Changing jobs

  3. Follow the prompts to email a pre-filled form

Want to join us? You'll need to open an account before returning the super standard choice form to your employer.

Section A – Your details
Section A – Your details

You'll need to fill in this section, no matter which fund you choose.

  1. Add your full name.

  2. Your workplace usually gives you an employee number when you start there. If you don't know it, ask your employer.

  3. It's a good idea to add your tax file number (TFN) so you don't pay more tax on your super.

Then choose one option for where you want your super paid:

  • My existing super fund: Tick this box if you're an ART member and want to stay with us. If you're not a member but want to be, join us now and then tick the box.
  • My employer's default super fund: If you don't have a super fund, ticking this box will let your employer open a new super account for you. You won't get to choose the fund.
  • My private self-managed super fund: For anyone with an SMSF. Check with your financial adviser or accountant if you need help.

This section is for anyone who wants to choose their own super fund, like ART. If you're a member with us, here are the details you need:

Fund name: Australian Retirement Trust

Australian business number (ABN): 60 905 115 063

Unique superannuation identifier (USI): 60 905 115 063 003

Your member details: Log into your account to find your member number and other details.

Letter of compliance: Download our letter and hand it in with the form.

Section C – If you don't want to choose a super fund

A default super fund is the fund your employer's picked for anyone who doesn't, or can't, choose their own fund.

  • By using this section, you're telling your employer you want to go with their super fund.
  • If you want to join a different fund, you'll need to fill out Section B instead.
  • If you don't give this form to your employer, they'll pay your super to the fund that's already stapled to you or to their default super fund.

Section D – For a private self-managed super fund (SMSF)

An SMSF is a private superannuation fund that you manage yourself or pay other people to help you set it up.

Your employer may also be able to help with questions about the ATO's standard choice form.

When you don't tell your employer where to pay your super, they need to check if you have an existing super fund linked to you (a stapled super fund).

  • If you have a stapled super fund, that's where they'll pay your super. If you have more than one super fund, you could end up paying multiple fees.
  • If you don't have a stapled super fund, your employer will pay your super to the fund that they choose.
