Our executive team

The Sunsuper executive team is responsible for the day-to-day management of the fund’s operations and the implementation of the policies and strategies set by the board. Listed are the members of the executive team as at June 2018.

Scott Hartley – Chief Executive Officer

The Board appointed Scott as Sunsuper’s Chief Executive Officer in January 2014. He has had an extensive career in the superannuation industry with more than 15 years’ experience in executive management roles, most recently holding the position of Executive General Manager, Corporate and Institutional Wealth at NAB. During that time, Scott also held directorships with Plum Financial Services and Jana Investment Advisers. Prior to that, he held several other executive leadership roles within the NAB /MLC Group, comprising strategy and marketing, institutional investments and financial planning. Scott’s extensive industry experience and wealth of business knowledge makes him eminently suitable for the role of CEO and will ensure Sunsuper is well-positioned to realise its strategic ambitions and continue to grow its member and corporate client base nationally.

Danielle Mair – Executive General Manager, Enterprise Change

Danielle joined Sunsuper in 2010 as Manager, Member Service & Advice where she was instrumental in transforming the company’s contact centre from a transactional service model to one focussed much more sharply on customer engagement, including general advice. 

In 2014 Danielle took on the leadership of the Member Services division to lead the team through a process of digital transformation before moving into the role of Head of Service Delivery and Performance in October 2016 before stepping into the role of Executive General Manager, Customer Engagement in March 2018. In March 2019 Danielle was appointed Executive General Manager, Enterprise Change.

Prior to joining Sunsuper, Danielle held senior leadership positions within Macquarie, MBF and Suncorp where she successfully built and led large teams through large business transformation programs and cultural change.  

Danielle holds a Diploma of Financial Planning and a Masters of Business Administration with a specialisation in Strategic Human Resource Management.

Dave Woodall – Executive General Manager, Corporate & Regional Growth

Dave Joined Sunsuper in 2015 as Head of Corporate & Institutional where he was responsible for leading Sunsuper’s national sales and acquisition activities, and managing our corporate and institutional customer segment. 

In March 2019, Dave was appointed to the Sunsuper Executive Team as Executive General Manager Corporate & Regional Growth, responsible for our corporate, institutional, regional and small-business customer segments, and our industry-leading payroll distribution platform.

Dave has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry across retail and institutional markets. He has successfully led high-performing teams in a number of disciplines, including sales, relationship management, financial advice, and marketing and communications. 

Dave holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland, post-graduate qualifications in finance and investments, and a Diploma of Financial Planning.

Ian Patrick – Chief Investment Officer

Ian joined Sunsuper in November 2015 as Chief Investment Officer. He and his team are responsible for continuing to execute the strategy of investing in a broad range of asset classes, dynamic asset allocation, and pursuing innovative investment opportunities, all while maintaining a strong emphasis on governance and maximising members’ returns.

Ian has over 20 years’ experience in the institutional investment industry, most recently holding the position of Chief Executive Officer at JANA Investment Advisers, a role he held from 2008. Prior to that he was Head of Global Equities at JANA and has also worked for Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Alexander Forbes Consultants and Actuaries, and Ginsburg Malan & Carsons Consultants & Actuaries in Johannesburg.

Ian is an Actuary and holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He is also a CFA charter holder.

Jason Sommer – Chief Financial Officer

In March 2019, Jason was appointed as Sunsuper’s Chief Financial Officer, responsible for our financial management, investment operations, product and actuarial, and strategy functions. Jason has been an Executive at Sunsuper since mid-2014 and during that time has successfully led many of the support services that keeps our business performing optimally (now and into the future) such as: the people management team and embedment of the organisation’s high performance culture; change and transformation, including the delivery of the Future, State 2020 vision – a 5 year program designed to make hard things easier for members; product management and development functions, financial management functions including management accounting, tax, actuarial and procurement; institutional and large corporate transitions capability; investment operations and technical service functions.

Prior to joining Sunsuper, Jason was an Executive within the Corporate & Institutional Wealth business of the NAB Group. During his 11 years with NAB, Jason held a number of positions including most recently General Manager, Change & Technical Services - a role he held for four years. Jason was also a member of the investment committee for the various NAB Group super funds - worth around $60 billion – and investment committee of the company’s advice and licensees’ board.

Jason has more 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry with much of his career spent in senior consulting, relationship management, product, project and technical services roles. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Lachlan East – Chief Risk Officer

Lachlan joined Sunsuper as Chief Risk Officer in 2012 and has close to 20 years experience across accounting and financial services industries.

Prior to joining Sunsuper, Lachlan spent more than 12 years working at international banking organisations predominantly in investment markets compliance roles based in Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. 

Lachlan holds a Bachelor of Commerce, is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and an Associate of the Governance Institute of Australia.

Petrina Weston – Executive General Manager, People & Culture

Petrina joined Sunsuper in 2013 and was appointed the Executive General Manager of People & Culture in March 2019, after holding a number of senior people roles within the business. 

In her role Petrina is accountable for setting and leading the People and Culture agenda that underpins and enables Sunsuper to embed and sustain high performance to achieve its vision for the future. Her expertise in strategic human resources, talent management, industrial relations, engagement, culture change and change management strengthens her leadership of a portfolio and team responsible for creating an environment and culture that attracts and enables the best talent to thrive.

Petrina has nearly 25 years’ experience in human resources and prior to joining Sunsuper held leadership roles at Origin Energy, Aussie Home Loans, AAMI and Vodafone.

Steven Travis – Executive General Manager, Member Growth & Marketing

Steve is the Executive General Manager for Member Growth & Marketing for Sunsuper. 

Steve is responsible for retaining and growing members for Sunsuper. He provides strategic direction for the design and delivery of customer experience, brand & marketing, and the advice capability including a network of aligned advice practices.

Steve’s had an eclectic career, having worked in Vanguard’s Retail Direct division based in Philadelphia, owned and operated a financial planning business, as well as held various leadership and management positions across Sunsuper for over 10 years.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), Masters degrees in both Applied Finance and Organisational Leadership, and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Stevhan Davidson – Executive General Manager, Customer Engagement

Stevhan joined Sunsuper in 2010 as Manager of Service Integration within the servicing division. During his time at Sunsuper, Stevhan has lead strategic change projects, including procurement of an enterprise workflow solution, and implementation of industry reforms such as Superstream and Insurance Code conformance. Stevhan was appointed General Manager Customer Engagement in March 2019. 

Stevhan has nearly 25 years’ financial services experience, both within Australia and overseas, including roles at BT, Adelaide bank, Citi, Schroders and Commonwealth Bank. Stevhan holds a Masters in Business Administration, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and certifications in project management, process improvement and architecture.

Teifi Whatley – Executive General Manager, Customer & Technology

Teifi Whatley is the Executive General Manager, Customer & Technology at Sunsuper, one of Australia’s largest superannuation businesses.

In her current role, she is responsible for positioning Sunsuper at the forefront of the industry, charged with providing strategic direction for the design and delivery of leading product and service experiences for members, employers and advisers through digital and technology capability. 

Prior to joining Sunsuper, Teifi had an extensive career in the broader financial services industry with more than 30 years marketing, customer and product experience in large institutions both in Australia and the UK.

Terri Hamilton – Company Secretary

Terri was appointed as Company Secretary in November 2018. She has had an extensive career in the financial services’ industry over the last 30 years. Most recently at Sunsuper, Terri has held the role of EGM Customer Engagement and prior to that the role of EGM Risk, Legal and Compliance. Terri has prior experience as a company director and was previously a director of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia. She holds a law degree.
