Driven by events in Europe, or perhaps more correctly lots of talk and no action in Europe, we saw some big market moves in global share markets and also in currencies. Once again it was debt that was the principal focus of attention. Concerns over defaults by some European governments coincided with the end of quantitative easing in the United States as well as some softer economic growth indicators.
Since the global financial crisis emerged in 2008 markets have been on a roller coaster. Unfortunately the volatility is set to continue as great uncertainties remain. However amongst all this uncertainty it must also be acknowledged that many companies continue to produce strong profits and some also pay attractive dividends.
